In the Comments box, you can provide any other information you would like us to know about your proposed solar panel installation. Step Two: On-Site Evaluation

Following the basic information-gathering stage, we will schedule a time to come out and visit with you at your Ann Arbor home or business. During the on-site evaluation, we will perform a thorough review of your property to determine the “solar-readiness” of your roof, as well as any other relevant factors that may affect the installation. Considerations for installing solar panels include, but are not limited to:
  • Zoning restrictions, building codes and laws applicable to your location in Ann Arbor
  • Your current energy usage, to help determine the number of required panels to power your home or business
  • Assessment of trees or other structures that are shading your roof; if any
  • Roof material, size, age, directional orientation, slant, overall structure and load capacity
  • Review of electrical system
  • Aesthetic goals

Step Three: Quoting and Proposal

From here, we will conduct a design and structural analysis considering all of the above factors and coalesce this information into a customized proposal for your solar project. We will also detail any applicable rebates, tax breaks and incentives that may apply, so that you can get a full picture of the cost of solar panel installation in Ann Arbor. In some cases, after including incentives, the cost for solar energy can be reduced by as much as 50%! Your proposal will also take into consideration the type of equipment, such as solar panels and inverters, needed for your project depending on their durability, aesthetics and efficiency. After reviewing the proposal with us and discussing any outstanding questions you may have, a contract is signed and a date scheduled for your installation.

Step Four: Installation

Prior to the date of installation, we will file all of the proper approval paperwork and obtain building permits for you with the city of Ann Arbor. It is the job of your solar provider to ensure that your system complies with all local rules and regulations.

We will also order all of the equipment needed to complete your project, as determined by your site analysis during the previous stage.

The actual installation of your solar panel system is very simple and will take anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days. Often a rooftop solar installation on a residence can be completed in one day, while a commercial installation may take a little longer. Generally speaking, the length of installation is dependent on the size of the solar array. The installation process will include roofing prep, electrical wiring, and then the actual installation and connection of the solar panels. There is not much for you, the Ann Arbor homeowner or building owner, to do during the installation, other than ensuring your driveway is clear and any pets are kept inside or fenced in the yard.

Step Five: Connect and Save!

Following the installation, an inspection will be performed by the city of Ann Arbor to document that the installation complies with local codes and regulations, as well as a site visit by the utility. Each of these visits typically takes no longer than an hour and your presence is optional. Once we have their sign-off you are good to go and ready to use your new solar panel system!
